Spotlight on the winners

The concept of Les 24h de l’innovation was created in 2007 by École Supérieure des Technologies Industrielles Avancées (ESTIA) in France.

Today, ESTIA holds its event in autumn while École de technologie supérieure (ÉTS) in Montreal organizes a spring event open to participants from around the world.

Since its inception, the ÉTS-organized event has met with success and crowned several winners.

2012 edition

First prize

Energy recovery by the human body during physical activity (Dev&Co) by the WinnerWorld team from UTC. This application is used in gyms by customers who want to contribute to sustainable development. Treadmills equipped with piezoelectric tiles are used to recover energy. Also, t-shirts equipped with thermoelectric fibres can be used to recharge wearable MP3 players.

Second prize

Energy recovery by the human body (The Easy Chair) by the K’Isen Cool team from ISEN. Thanks to this chair, energy can be created using body weight and heat. The chair operates thanks to the difference in temperature – known as “powerfelt” – between the body and the nanotube-equipped chair fabric.

Third prize

Smart outer wall by the Gansta Team from ÉTS. The wall is designed to foster culture and sharing as it promotes social connectivity in neighbourhoods and cities. This tactile and interactive wall provides support to community life by supplying information on services, transportation, and events. In addition, it has many other functionalities that are worth discovering.
